Some would argue the Toyota LandCruiser Prado to be among the most versatile vehicles on the planet, and that argument just gained in strength with the debut of the Land Cruiser (Prado) Commercial.
The end result of a factory-backed British project, the 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Commercial is aimed at those “who do not require the load-carrying capabilities or additional seats of the HiLux pick-up, but want the benefits of serious off-road performance, on-road poise and a wealth of comfort, safety and convenience features as standard”.
As in North America, the 250 Series Prado is badged and sold in the UK exclusively as the LandCruiser, making it Toyota’s premier 4x4 in that particular market, with the Commercial being the halo of the Toyota Professional range.
The vehicle presents like an ordinary 250 series but only has two seats; the second and third rows removed in the name of cargo space and creating an all-terrain van with a VDA cargo capacity of up to 2000 litres.
“The conversion process is undertaken at Toyota Manufacturing UK’s Burnaston production facility in Derbyshire,” Toyota UK said.
“It includes removing the rear seats, rendering the rear opaque with interior steel panel inserts and installing a full-height metal bulkhead with a mesh top section.”
The 250 Series is only offered in a single, highly-specified trim level in the UK and so all the relevant equipment has been retained, including leather upholstery, 18-inch alloy wheels, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated front seats and steering wheel, powered tailgate, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, dual-zone climate control and a 9.0-inch infotainment system.
No changes have been made to the chassis or 150kW/500Nm turbo-diesel powertrain (no 48V system), meaning the wagon’s payload and 3500kg braked towing figures are also maintained.
Being a UK-specific product it’s highly unlikely the LandCruiser (Prado) Commercial will be offered in Australia anytime soon.
That said, pricing starts from £52,729 ($A110,571) drive-away compared to the standard 250 Series’ £77,845 ($A163,241).
