2025 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX Tourer breaks cover
With Passat no longer on sale in Australia, VW may turn its attention to this hot 250kW EV wagonVW’s most powerful station wagon yet has emerged in the form of the battery-electric 2025 Volkswagen ID.7 GTX, which packs in a 250kW dual-motor powertrain and boasts up to 1714 litres of boot space.
Essentially a flagship EV alternative to the new-generation wagon-only Volkswagen Passat – which will not be sold in Australia as the German brand concentrates on its local EV rollout – VW’s new ID.7 GTX Tourer was revealed alongside the Golf-sized ID.3 GTX hot hatch overnight and could find its way Down Under.
The Volkswagen ID. Buzz GTX people-mover is also expected to make a grand entrance in Europe soon.
The dual-motor powertrain in the ID.7 GTX Tourer yields a rear-biased AWD system that promises a fast and sporty driving experience, although acceleration claims and full specifications are still to be released.
Among the details released overnight is a top speed of 180km/h, while the 91kWh battery pack can be charged at up to 200kW when using DC power, replenishing the battery from 10-80 per cent in less than 30 minutes. No claimed driving range has been provided.
The car rides on a GTX-spec chassis set-up comprising firmer springs and dampers, beefier sway bars and stickier tyres, with adaptive dampers listed as an option.
Boot space is rated at 605 litres with the rear seats in place, and 1714L with them stowed.
Like other GTX models, the ID.7 GTX Tourer stands out from its lesser peers with unique aprons, side skirts, 20-inch alloys, black trimmings and bold grille mesh.
The interior is also suitably sporty with red switchgear and trim highlights, heated sports seats and a GTX-exclusive steering wheel.
Other standard features include dual-zone climate control, IQ.Light Matrix LED headlights, 30-colour ambient interior lighting, a head-up display, wireless charging and smartphone mirroring, keyless access, ChatGPT-based voice control and ArtVelours Eco microfleece upholstery.
Volkswagen Australia is yet to confirm the wider ID.7 portfolio for our market, but the performance-focused GTX Tourer could be a handy addition to its burgeoning EV stable.
