2025 Xiaomi YU7 is a 508kW super-SUV

Chinese tech giant’s second car is a McLaren-Purosangue mash-up

The 2025 Xiaomi YU7 has been unwrapped ahead of its official launch in China mid next year, with the all-electric performance SUV joining the smartphone maker’s SU7.

Like its sedan sibling, the new YU7 features a pair of McLaren-style front headlamps but ultimately looks like it owes more to the Ferrari Purosangue in terms of it its proportions and coupe-SUV shape.

Set to become its best-selling car, Xiaomi hopes the new YU7 will spearhead the brand’s move to other markets that will include Europe, the US and potentially Australia.

Measuring 4999mm long, 1996mm wide, 1600mm tall and with a wheelbase of 3000mm, the YU7 tips the scales at 2405kg and casts a similar shadow on the ground as the current Porsche Cayenne (4930mm x 1983mm x1698mm).

According to the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) filing that published the images, the YU7 should be seriously quick thanks to a dual-motor powertrain that kicks out an impressive 508kW – there’s no word on acceleration, but the top speed is pegged at 253km/h.

Powering the YU7 is a 101kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt (NMC) battery sourced from CATL said to provide a range of up 830km against the Chinese CLTC test cycle.

Reports suggest pricing for the Xiaomi SUV will kick-off at around 250,000 Chines yuan ($A55,000) – around the same price as a Tesla Model Y, but the 508kW version will cost a lot more than that.

In China, the Xiaomi's first model, the SU7, has proven a huge sales success with 112,516 examples sold so far in 2024 which is all the more remarkable when you consider sales of the sedan didn’t begin until March.
