Bentley has finally locked in a name for its inaugural EV which will make its long-awaited debut on September 23 as the Torcal.

The nameplate takes its name from the El Torcal de Antequera – a huge limestone formation – in Spain, with the name also being derived from the Latin word ‘torquere’, which means “to twist”.
That’s fitting for a luxury EV that’s bound to be blessed with bucketloads of torque and share its underpinnings with the Audi Q6 e-tron and Porsche Macan, the latter of which outputs 470kW/1150Nm in its most potent form.
Bentley is keeping all other details beyond the nameplate closely under wraps; however it has previewed the Torcal’s curved tailgate and scaley-looking rear light clusters – not a whole lot to report.

Given it’s underpinned by the VW Group’s PPE architecture and previously confirmed to slot in below the Bentayga in the hierarchy, expect Bentley’s second SUV to be roughly the same size as the Q6 and Macan.
“In the coming weeks, more updates on the Bentley Torcal will be revealed in the build up to the 23 September [debut],” Bentley said in a statement.
We’re yet to get confirmation from Bentley Australia as to any local plans for the Torcal, but we’d expect it to be high on the priority list for the local outfit and arrive sometime next year – depending on production timelines.
