2026 BMW M2 with M xDrive steps out

BMW adds all-wheel drive to its smallest coupe to make a compact AMG-killer

The News

The 2026 BMW M2 has been given more grip courtesy of an M-spec xDrive all-wheel drive system and with it, the most obvious and clunky name ever: M2 with M xDrive. Due in Australia next quarter (July-September) and priced from $133,100 plus on-road costs, the all-paw coupe will launch from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds – 0.3s quicker than the rear-drive version.

The Key Details

  • 2026 BMW M2 with M xDrive debuts
  • Same 353kW/600Nm as rear-drive version
  • Zero-100km/h in 3.7 seconds
  • Eight-speed automatic transmission only

The Finer Details

As one would expect, the M xDrive all-wheel drive system is rear-biased and only powers the rear axle under normal running – it’s not until more grip or traction is needed that the front axle is engaged.

Like the bigger all-paw M cars, the M2 with M xDrive’s AWD system is configurable in tandem with the ESC system to allow for either maximum grip or maximum slip and almost everything in between.

Helping things along is the ‘Active M Differential’ while the forward momentum is counteracted by M Compound brakes (six-piston front, single-piston rear callipers) as standard.

The whole package rolls on staggered 19-inch front, 20-inch rear alloy wheels.

Supporting that 3.7-second 0-100km/h sprint is a 12.8-second 0-200km/h time and a governed top speed of 250km/h, however that can be raised to 285km/h via the optional (globally) M Driver’s Package.

The Road Ahead

As mentioned above, the new M2 with M xDrive will arrive Down Under in the third quarter of the year priced from $133,100, making it $5000 dearer than it rear-drive equivalent but still nowhere near as dear as the hot CS ($172,900).
