2026 Chery Tiggo 7 freshens up, prices unchanged

Styling tweaks herald a fractionally more efficient but way less powerful engine

The News

The 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 has been overhauled as part of model year updates that see it sport a fresh face and an all-new 1.5-litre turbo that trades a big power drop for slightly better efficiency. The good news is the updated mid-sized SUV remains priced from $29,990 drive-away

The Key Details

  • Refreshed mid-size SUV gets new LED headlamps and fresh taillamps
  • New 1.5-litre turbo boasts enhanced efficiency and averages 6.9L/100km
  • Petrol engine produces a considerable 29kW less
  • Remains priced from just $29,990-drive-away when first cars arrive this month

The Finer Details

The updated fresh-faced 2026 Chery Tiggo 7 gains new projector LED headlamps, a revised front bumper and revised grille.

At the rear there's new taillamps that look similar to the Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid PHEV that was launched last month.

The big change under the bonnet is the current model's turbocharged 1.6-litre four-cylinder is replaced by a new 1.5-litre turbo that produces 108kW and 210Nm of torque.

That’s a considerable 29kW/65Nm down on the outgoing powertrain.

The new engine is also combined with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission and not the current car's seven-speed DCT.

According to Chery the new engine is capable of averaging 6.9L/100km - a modest 0.1L/100km improvement compared to the current car, while emissions drop 5g/km.

Originally launched under the Tiggo 7 Pro nameplate back in late 2023, the mid-size SUV was then renamed the Tiggo 7 Pro SE earlier this year.

It sits below the more expensive Tiggo 7 Super Hybrid PHEV that’s priced at $39,990 drive-away and is Australia’s cheapest PHEV.

Mechanically similar to the sportier-looking Chery C5, the 4513mm-long Tiggo 7 is 200mm longer than the C5 and offers both ambient lighting and a power-adjustable driver's seat missing on the smaller model.

As before, all Chery models are backed by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, plus seven years of capped-price servicing.

The top-spec Tiggo 7 Ultimate remains priced at $33,990 drive-away.

The Road Ahead

While some may lament the loss of power, we think the value-conscious buyers will celebrate the MY26 Chery Tiggo 7 keeping its bargain entry pricing.

Meanwhile, the increase in efficiency, even though marginal will be seen as icing on the cake. Let's hope the new transmission is smoother and the driver assist tech is more measured in its responses.
