2026 Ford Ranger Hybrid range slashes prices

More equipment and huge price cuts transforms the electrified Ranger ute’s value proposition

The News

A new name, a rationalised range and massive price reductions headline the 2026 Ford Ranger Hybrid update, formerly known as the Ranger PHEV. While the powertrain remains unchanged, at a stroke Ford has transformed its electrified Ranger from a niche curiosity to a vehicle with significantly more mainstream appeal.

The Key Details

  • Plug-in variants now called the Ford Ranger Hybrid
  • Three variants now offered, the XL, Sport and Wildtrak
  • Powertrain unchanged but equipment and spec levels have increased
  • Huge price cuts of up to ~$15,000

The Finer Details

In one sense, the 2026 Ford Ranger Hybrid hasn’t changed at all. Under the skin its mechanicals carryover, the powertrain consisting of a 2.3-litre turbocharged petrol four-cylinder engine (138kW/411Nm) married to a 75kW e-motor for a combined output of 207kW/697Nm.

The 11.8kWh battery pack provides an electric driving range of up to 49km or can be used in conjunction with the petrol engine to reduce fuel consumption, while maximum braked towing capacity matches the diesel Ranger at 3500kg.

Where Ford has completely transformed the Ranger Hybrid is the value proposition.

Having started at $71,990 plus on-road costs (excluding on-road costs) at launch, the range now kicks off at $59,000 driveaway for the Ranger Hybrid XL, despite adding more equipment.

That brings it within striking distance of the BYD Shark 6 Premium ($57,900 +ORCs), which is currently Australia’s top-selling plug-in hybrid dual-cab ute.

The Chinese car giant is also launching two new Shark 6 models imminently, the Performance ($62,900 +ORCs) and Cab Chassis ($55,900 +ORCs) versions.

Back to the Ford Ranger, and the $59,000 driveaway pricing for the base grade XL Hybrid slots it between the existing 2.0-litre ($51,400 +ORCs) and 3.0-litre ($57,900 +ORCs) diesel Rangers – but it has a superior level of standard kit.

The Ranger Hybrid XL gets 17-inch alloys and all-season tyres, the full-width 12.4-inch digital instrument cluster, larger 12.0-inch infotainment screen and dual-zone climate control with rear air vents.

While it’s been dropped from the ICE Ranger lineup, the Sport name continues in the Hybrid family but has been reduced from $75,990 (+ORCs) to $66,000 driveaway.

Over the XL it adds larger 18-inch alloy wheels, a rear sports bar, side steps, LED headlamps, puddle lamps, leather-accented seats, wireless phone charging, power-adjust mirrors and an alarm, while the MY26 version adds the larger instrument cluster, 360-degree camera, auto high-beam and Pro Trailer Backup Assist.

Topping the range is the Hybrid Wildtrak at $70,000 driveaway, reduced from $79,990 (+ORCs) and undercutting its diesel sibling by around $10,000 or more depending on the specific state-based on-road costs.

It includes dynamic Matrix LED headlights, a power roller shutter, heated seats, 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo and ambient lighting over the Ford Ranger Hybrid Sport version.

The Road Ahead

The new pricing effectively makes permanent the hefty price cuts Ford announced in April in response to the international fuel crisis.

Just how radically it will change the Ranger powertrain sales mix remains to be seen, but the repositioning gives buyers another option as diesel prices continue to remain elevated.

Ranger 4x4 sales were down 9.1 per cent so far in 2026 as of the end of April, with the Toyota HiLux posting an even greater drop in sales.

It will also help Ford’s standing under the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, or NVES. While the brand accrued 426,261 credits in 2025 that it can carry forward in years to come, it would’ve quickly faced huge fines on its predominantly diesel lineup from 2026 onwards.

Sales success for the Ranger Hybrid – which is officially claimed to use just 2.7L/100km and emit 66g/km CO2 – will significantly alleviate this pressure.

Ford has yet to announce any plans for a plug-in hybrid of the Ranger’s Everest SUV twin.
