Australia’s newest brand, GAC, has revealed an impressively specced seven-seat people-mover as part of its initial three-car range – and it’s a plug-in-hybrid (PHEV).

The Key Details

  • Priced from $76,590 before on-road costs (ORCs)
  • Australia’s first PHEV people-mover
  • Premium and Luxury grades offered
  • Claimed 106km electric/1000km-plus total range
  • Eight-year vehicle and battery warranty

The Finer Details

Australia’s newest car brand, Guangzhou Auto Group Company (GAC), has announced pricing and specification for its large M8 PHEV people mover, which it has dubbed an MPV (multi-purpose vehicle).

Starting at $76,590 (before ORCs) for the entry-level Premium grade, GAC – one of China’s top four carmakers – has really swung for the fence when it comes to spec on the M8, a top seller in China according to the brand.

Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor via a two-speed transmission, the M8 relies on a 25kWh modular lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery to provide a WLTP-rated electric range of 106km.

A claimed combined WLTP range of 6.1L/100l combined with a 56-litre fuel tank provides a range of just over 1000km, according to GAC.

The 2026 GAC M8 PHEV is packed to the gunwhales with technology, including draft-free air-conditioning that doesn’t blow directly on passengers, a 6.6-litre fridge, high-grade leather throughout, ten-way adjustable seats with individual LCD digital screens, deep recline and 3.3kW vehicle-to-load capability, and a 10.1-inch multimedia screen with wireless smartphone mirroring.

The brand says it has also focused on reducing noise levels entering the cabin, while an adaptive damper system integrates with the engine management computer to deliver a smoother ride for all seven occupants.
