2026 Geely EX5 upgraded with bigger battery

Little more than a year after it was launched in China, the 2026 Geely EX5 has been upgraded by the introduction of a new larger 68.39kWh lithium-iron-phosphate battery that will provide a new long-range option for the budget EV.

Combined with the standard car’s front-mounted single e-motor, that still produces 160kW and 320Nm, the new Geely EX5 is said to be capable of covering up to 610km on a charge, although that figure was recorded on the lenient Chinese CLTC test cycle.

Offered alongside both the China-only 49.52kWh and the larger 60.22kWh battery that can cover up to 430km (WTLP) Australians get, there’s no word on whether charging speeds are quicker than the capped 100kW DC charging on the cars we get, with a 30-80 per cent top up currently claimed to take 20 minutes.

In Australia the EX5 is offered in either the Complete or Inspire trims.

Base spec models come with 18-inch alloy wheels, auto LED lights, privacy glass, heated power-fold mirrors, a heat pump, keyless entry and start, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15.4-inch infotainment that features in-built sat-nav.

There’s also a six-speaker sound system, 15W wireless phone charger and six-way heated power driver seat (four-way passenger)

The Inspire trim adds 19-inch alloy wheels, a panoramic roof, power tailgate, 13.4-inch head-up display, ventilated massage front seats, a power leg rest for the passenger seat, ambient lighting and a 16-speaker 1000W sound system.

Other minor updates to the EX5 range include the option of new Dawn Blue and Evening Forest Green paint, which could be added to the five colours offered Down Under.

There’s no word yet on whether the new bigger battery is destined for export markets like Australia, but it’s likely. In China, the new long-range EX5 will arrive on sale before the end of this month.

Earlier this month Geely International – the company behind the Chinese brand’s rapid expansion to 25 different countries – celebrated the delivery of its 150,000th Geely EX5.
