2026 GWM Ora SUV outed

High-riding electric SUV set to get 150kW e-motor and new LFP battery

The News

The 2026 GWM Ora SUV has been officially outed following the Chinese Ministry for Industry and Information Technology posting pictures and early details of the Chinese firm's new compact electric SUV that’s set to go on sale next year.

The Key Details

  • GWM Ora designed to rival the BYD Atto 3 and MG ZS EV
  • Expected to get 150kW e-motor
  • New LFP battery should provide up to 450km of range
  • Likely to be priced from $40,000 if green lit for Australia

The Finer Details

The new GWM Ora SUV picks up where the small Ora hatchback left off, sharing retro design cues that include a pair of cute round headlamps and curvaceous body.

Riding much higher than the Ora, GWM’s inbound compact SUV gets a set of standard roof rails, while at the rear, it echoes the hatchback’s clamshell tailgate, featuring a rear screen that incorporates the taillights within the lower half of the rear glass.

Confirming it will measure up at 4471mm long, 1883mm wide and stand 1641mm tall, the new Ora SUV sports a 2720mm wheelbase.

Those dimensions are on par with the BYD Atto 3 and see the SUV considerably larger than the Ora hatch (4235mm long, 1825mm wide, 1596mm tall with a 2650mm wheelbase).

The documents accompanying the pics also confirm the Ora SUV will come with a 150kW e-motor and a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery that will be sourced from Honeycomb Energy.

Helping improve the smoothness of the brakes, that combine regenerative and mechanical braking, the small GWM comes with new brake-by-wire tech from Chinese supplier Feigetech.

In China, the GWM Ora SUV will be offered with the brand's latest driver assist tech that will combine a long-distance roof-mounted LiDAR sensor, extra cameras and side radars.

The Road Ahead

The GWM Ora SUV has yet to be locked in for Australia but when it arrives it could trigger another price war in the small electric SUV segment , although following a price rise for the smaller Ora hatch (from $35,990 drive-away), there's only so low the brand can go before it starts cannibalising sales from its own models.
