2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class with EQ Technology teased

Premium sedan will share advanced tech with the GLC EV revealed in Munich and deliver more than 800km of driving range

The News

The boss of Mercedes-Benz has teased the all-new C-Class with EQ Technology during his speech at the Munich motor show, which will introduce the brand's latest EV tech to the premium mid-size sedan class when it arrives in Australia late next year.

Current Mercedes-Benz C-Class

The Key Details

  • The C-Class is second car based on Benz's all-new MB.EA architecture
  • New platform set to deliver class-leading cabin space
  • New mid-size sedan to bring 800km-plus range
  • Second Benz model in a row to get oversized traditional chrome grille

The Finer Details

Teasing a single picture of the 2026 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the first glimpse at the battery-powered BMW 3 Series rival will feature a large prominent upright chrome grille that will incorporate illumination and three horizontal slats, as well as the firm's trademark silver star.

Other takeaways from the new teaser include CLA-like star-shaped daytime running lights and what looks like curvy rear arches and more rakish rear styling.

During his speech, Benz Boss Ola Källenius?confirmed the all-new sixth-generation C-Class would migrate to the latest MB.EA vehicle architecture that also underpins the firm's latest GLC with EQ Technology mid-size SUV, rather than the small MMA platform used for the CLA sedan and Shooting Brake.

Hesitant to give away too much, the German car-maker's CEO said the new C-Class would blend "perfect proportions" on the outside with "maximum space on the inside".

The all-new C-Class would also come with "superior driving dynamics" and a range of up to 800km thanks to "outstanding efficiency".

From launch, it's thought Benz will offer a dual motor all-wheel drive C 400 4MATIC that will produce around 360kW, for a 0-100km/h sprint of around 4.0 seconds.

Timed to arrive around the same time as its closest rival, the inbound Neue Klasse BMW i3, it's thought the new four-door C-Class will be on sale by early 2027.

Once launched, a powerful Mercedes-AMG will be rolled out that could come with as much as 750kW from an advanced triple, or quad-motor powertrain.

The Road Ahead

Given the new Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology was unwrapped just hours after the BMW iX3, it's no surprise that Benz is ready to go with its next-generation C-Class, particularly with the news BMW has locked in its i3 for a 2026 arrival.

What hasn't been confirmed is whether the new C-Class will also be offered with hybrid power as well, or if a facelifted version of the current Benz sedan will live on to aid the transition in the wake of a global slowing in EV sales.
