The Finer Details

The new-gen GLB-Class is set to be offered in hybrid or battery electric guise when it arrives Down Under next year, as well as two- or all-wheel (4MATIC) drive.

Orders for battery-electric variants are now open in Germany, where two grades are offered including the base 200kW GLB 250+ with EQ Technology and 260kW GLB 350 4MATIC with EQ Technology.

Both feature 800-volt architecture and use an 85kWh lithium-ion battery, offering up to 631km (WLTP) driving range.

Mercedes-Benz claims around 260km of range can be added in just ten minutes, thanks to a max 320kW DC charge rate.

Meanwhile, hybrid versions will be offered later in 2026, powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine with a 48-volt hybrid system and a 1.3kWh battery pack.

Set to measure up around 100mm longer and 27mm wider than before, the new GLB also gets a wheelbase that’s 60mm longer than its predecessor.

In electric vehicle (EV) versions, a 127-litre frunk (front trunk) is offered, while a 540- or 480-litre boot is offered in the five or seven seaters, respectively.

Inside, it sports a redesigned interior with a new ‘Superscreen’ which comprises dual 14-inch screens along with a 10.25-inch driver’s display.

The new GLB nabs a more advanced virtual assistant along with more app connectivity.

Safety and driving aids, cabin space, and equipment levels are said to be improved.

Other neat details include the fitment of adaptive dampers, 94 individually animated LED stars on the grille, and inside the cabin: 158 illuminated stars on the roof.
