The production-spec 2026 Toyota FJ Cruiser has been outed via the World Intellectual Property Organisation months ahead of its global debut in Q4 of this year.
Unearthed by Top Gear Philippines, the computer-generated render showcases most of the mid-sized off-roader’s key features, proportions and details; none of which stray too far from the original Compact Cruiser EV concept presented in 2022.
Also closely resembling the FJ Cruiser teaser released at the reveal of the latest LandCruiser Prado, the patented design is devoid of the Compact Cruiser’s busy front bumper detailing, roof rails, side ladder and bonnet scoop.
Present however are the boxy, compact dimensions tipped to split the GWM Tank 300 and Suzuki Jimny XL, underbite front bumper, C-pillar rear door handles, C-clamp daytime running lights and volume-rich body cladding.
Further details on the reborn FJ are few and far between right now though there are all sorts of rumours floating around regarding its powertrain(s), platform and market intent.
If we were to hazard an educated guess, we’d tip the production car to be known as the ‘Toyota LandCruiser FJ’ as per a trademark filing discovered by carsales in March 2024 and ride on a shrunken version of the TNGA-F ladder-frame since the car was originally teased alongside the full-sized Prado.
Powertrains is a tougher call to make, though we wouldn’t be surprised in the slightest if a petrol-hybrid and/or mild hybrid turbo-diesel system emerged as the default propulsion method.
Mechanical 4x4 and low-range gearing would also be par for the course given the inevitable ‘LandCruiser’ moniker and the off-road implications it brings, but at the same time a simple all-wheel drive version could be offered for the pavement royalty.
