2026 Volvo EX60 teased for the first time
Crucial mid-size SUV previewed for the first time ahead of next year debutThe 2026 Volvo EX60 is inching closer to its full reveal and, to prove it, the Swedish brand has incorporated a teaser of it into the global debut of the new ES90 sedan.
Teased at around the 25-minute mark, our first glimpse the inbound Volvo EX60 – that will be officially launched next year – is of a full-size clay model's rear design.
Showing off its rear tail lamps and ES90-style high-level lamps mounted within the rear screen, the teaser shows that Volvo’s inbound EV will share styling cues with the baby EX30 and flagship EX90.
Positioned as a rival for the Audi Q6 e-tron, all-new BMW iX3, Tesla Model Y and Mercedes-Benz CLC with EQ Technology, Volvo has confirmed testing of what’s expected to be its most popular EV is already well underway.
Primed to be the first model to use Volvo’s next-generation SPA3 platform, the EX60 will be a flagbearer and set the tone for all of the brand’s future EVs which will ride on the new state-of-the-art architecture, removing its reliance on Geely platforms.
The SPA3 platform will also allow Volvo to roll out its most advanced software yet that will be capable of over-the-air updates which will add new features like more sophisticated self-driving aids remotely.
Set to match the exterior dimensions of its current combustion-powered XC60, the electric mid-size Volvo SUV will provide more cabin space compared to its petrol-powered sibling.
Since the SPA3 is a dedicated EV platform, it’s unlikely the new EX60 will be offered with a range-extender hybrid.
For those not ready for the switch to electric, the current XC60 has been reengineered to live on in the range, with a recent update upgrading its on-board infotainment system.
It’s now thought the seven-year-old XC60 will undergo a third comprehensive facelift to keep it fresh for at least another three or four more years.
Expect more teases of the Volvo EX60 in the coming months in the build-up to its launch next year.
