The 2026 Volvo S90 has undergone a major makeover, with the large BMW 5 Series and Audi A6 rival scoring sleeker styling, a swisher cabin, new tech and an upgraded hybrid powertrain.
Drawing inspiration from the latest XC90 and XC60 facelifts, the S90 now wears a sharper, more aggressive front-end design with a fresh daytime running light signature that ties it closely to the new all-electric ES90 sedan.
The grille has been lowered, the front bumper reshaped, and the rear now features a revised bumper, reworked boot lid, integrated spoiler, and a new taillight design for a more modern, athletic stance.
Volvo has finally refreshed the alloy wheel range too, offering designs from neat 18-inch options to bold 21-inch styles.
Comfort and refinement were front of mind in this overhaul of the S90, originally launched in 2016.
Engineers have added extra sound insulation for a quieter ride and fitted adaptive dampers across the range for improved handling and comfort.
Inside, the 11.2-inch floating infotainment display has been redesigned with snappier software and OTA update capability.
Cabin materials also see a lift, with added soft-touch finishes, real metal accents and more wood trim to elevate the luxury feel.
Under the bonnet, the S90 lineup now includes a fully electrified suite of 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines – mild-hybrids for base models and a T8 plug-in hybrid flagship offering 339kW and up to 80km of EV range (WLTP).
Despite the upgrades, the S90 remains unlikely to return to Aussie showrooms. Volvo pulled the plug on it locally back in 2019 after selling just 93 units the year prior.
There’s still a slim chance we might see a new V90 or V90 Cross Country, but it’s more likely Volvo Australia will focus on launching the all-electric Volvo ES90 later this year, with its headline 700km driving range.
