China’s XPeng has released the first pictures of it all-new XPeng P7 sports sedan, which will square off with the Porsche Taycan and Tesla Model S when it launches in the second half of 2025.
Claimed by the EV start-up to be ‘more than a car’ and XPeng’s answer for the ‘AI [artificial intelligence] era’, the XPeng P7 is a new flagship sedan whose single aim is to redefine luxury cars.
Introducing the brand’s new design language, the P7 boasts a fastback profile, full-width light bars, flush-fit door handles and frameless mirrors.
Other styling highlights include a large pop-out spoiler to keep the P7 stable at high speeds.
XPeng has not revealed what’s happened within the cabin, but spy shots indicate a huge central landscape-mounted touchscreen and a three-spoke steering wheel with physical controls.
Powering the infotainment is the latest iteration of XPeng’s Xmart OS 2.0 operating system that is said to support natural speaking and work with a new augmented reality head-up display.
More advances have been made when it comes to driver-assist tech, with the new model coming equipped with its all-new Turing AI chip.
Instead of using LiDAR, the P7 relies solely on cameras for sensing and detecting hazards, but it’s expected to offer Level 3 adaptive cruise that will allow owners to read or watch movies on the move.
Instead of a sedan, it’s been tipped the P7 will be more of a large hatchback.
Likely to be based on XPeng’s all-new ‘Kunpeng’ EV architecture, it’s thought the P7 could debut the firm’s all-new range-extender hybrids. Most, however, will come with EV power, with the P7 expected to blend up to 350kW with a range of more than 700km.
It’s thought the all-new XPeng P7 will be officially revealed in late November 2025 at the Guangzho auto show, with sales set to start around then.
This year XPeng’s expansion in Australia continues with the rollout of an updated G6, plus the arrival of the G9 large SUV and X9 people mover, with the P7 expected to land later in 2026.
