We’re just months away from an official announcement on the local future of the 2027 Nissan Frontier Pro plug-in hybrid ute, with departing Nissan Oceania managing director Andrew Humberstone revealing it could be here sooner than expected.

Speaking to carsales today at the national media launch of the all-new D27 Navara, Humberstone said many of the major boxes had been ticked on the Frontier Pro’s local business case and that the details were being wrapped up now.
“It’s about timelines,” he said.
“We’re hoping to have it sooner than originally planned, but it’s all being finalised as we speak and hopefully, within the next two months, you should get a statement from the new incumbent.”
Humberstone went on to forecast a sales figure well into the thousands post-launch and said it would serve as “fantastic footprint” for Nissan going forward.

“I think if you look at that segment, there’s so much growth opportunity in hybrid, [the] HEV kind of space.”
It should be noted at this point the Frontier Pro has never been publicly or explicitly confirmed for Australia, however the groundwork for its introduction has been on the cards for months, if not years, including a shock local unveiling to dealers at a gala in November.
Executives allegedly nominated an early 2027 introduction at the event for the model that will look to disrupt the awesome sales progress of the BYD Shark 6 and to a lesser extent, the GWM Cannon Alpha.
Humberstone wouldn’t be drawn on whether the petrol-electric ute would one day outsell the diesel-powered Navara workhorse, let alone when it might happen, however he did suggest the electrified and turbo-diesel ute scenes would run parallel for a while before the latter is phased out.
“I think what you’ll see is a shift in an overlay between consumer needs and wants,” he said.
