The big new flagship SUV that Porsche will launch in 2027 – positioned above the Cayenne – has been rendered following the capture of spy images, showing the luxurious new seven-seat wagon testing in Germany.
These unofficial digital images created by Kolesa.ru fill in some of the detail gaps created by the blacked-out prototype’s camouflage and, unsurprisingly, making the unnamed SUV look a lot like a scaled-up Porsche Macan EV, with the most noticeable difference being the stretched wheelbase.
Both models share a rakish roofline by SUV standards, but the large upcoming SUV codenamed K1 takes a more practical approach given it needs to offer respectable room for third-row passengers.
Other shared design cues include high-set quad-beam DRLs, a full-width rear lighting signature and sleek front bumper design, however, one key difference between the two is the Macan’s sunken headlights – the K1 mimics the Cayenne and Taycan in bundling all the front lights together.
The K1 will be the first Porsche model underpinned by the Volkswagen Group’s new SSP Sport architecture and will be pitched as a direct rival to big electric SUVs like the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV, albeit with the obligatory emphasis on dynamics and sporting ability.
Rumour has it the electrical architecture will be a monstrous 920V system to offer ridiculously fast charging for its expected 100kWh-plus battery pack, while the two or three drive motors are tipped to be oil-cooled.
WLTP cruising ranges of more than 700km are theorised for the most efficient versions, while the inevitable Turbo and/or GT flagships will hit 100km/h in about three seconds, thanks to expected outputs of more than 746kW.
As the new mothership of the Porsche line-up, you can expect the K1 to have the kitchen sink thrown at it in terms of innovation, standard equipment and high-tech gadgetry, including electronic differentials, four-wheel steering, ultra-fast charging, clever battery packaging and next-generation cabin tech.
Production is earmarked to start in 2027 – after the release of a new all-electric Cayenne in 2026 and the zero-emission 718 Boxster and Cayman sports car twins in 2025.
