Toyota has just peeled the covers off its hottest hatch to date: the 2027 GRMN Corolla. Pointier, torquier, lighter and undoubtedly dearer than the standard GR, the GRMN is a performance-obsessed two-seater stemming from the Japanese Super Taikyu race series and is headed Down Under.

Packing 221kW/408Nm, the GRMN offers a marginal 8Nm torque bump over the standard GR Corolla but pairs the extra grunt with a 40kg weight reduction, much more aggressive chassis, optimised all-wheel drive system and extra aero.
The weight has been saved primarily by deleting the rear seats and upgrading the fronts to lightweight buckets, plus a few carbon-fibre bits here and there.
The suspension has been completely overhauled with “bespoke” monotube dampers and new springs which pair with a retuned power steering system and wider and stickier Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres for sharper dynamics and more grip.

On top of making it look as tough as nails, the GRMN Corolla’s aero features are all functional and intended to help keep it glued to the ground at all speeds – the rear wing is five-way adjustable.
Complementing the racing seats is a rear strut brace and a sea of Alcantara/suede on the dash, steering wheel, handbrake and gear lever – crucially, the GRMN is manual-only.
No performance claims have been made at the time of writing, however Toyota Australia has confirmed it will release further specification, timing and allocation details closer to the GRMN’s local introduction next year.
With the current GR Corolla GTS starting from $67,990 plus on-roads, it’d be safe to expect the GRMN to arrive from close to $80,000, if not more.
Two colours will be available: matte black or khaki – the latter is an Australia and North American exclusive.
Toyota HQ has also confirmed a five-seater ‘Morizo RR’ version is being developed with the brand’s eight-speed automatic transmission.
