37th Historic Winton

It's on again, for lovers of historic cars and motorcycles, in the last weekend of May. . .

Winton Motor Raceway in north eastern Victoria is about to host the 37th running of Historic Winton on May 25 and 26.

The event, conducted annually on the last full weekend in May, is organised by the Austin 7 Club in conjunction with the Historic Motorcycle Racing Association of Victoria.

The organisers say Historic Winton is Australia’s largest and most popular event of its type, which this year will see more than 400 historic racing cars and motorbikes competing non-stop in 44 events over two days.

Celebrations will also include a number of significant milestones, including:
>> 110 years of Buick, Standard, Vauxhall, BSA and Harley Davidson
>> 100 years of Morris and Aston Martin
>> 80 years of Railton and Singer Le Mans
>> 60 years since the first Redex Trial
>> 60 years of Sunbeam Alpine, FJ Holden and Triumph TR2
>> 50 years since the first Bathurst
>> 50 years of EH Holden, Lamborghini, Lightburn Zeta and Honda
>> 40 years of Leyland P76

Other highlights of the meeting will include the Shannons Classic Car Park featuring car and bike club displays, spectator access to the competition
paddock where many old racing machines will be on display, a selection of rare Minerva cars, and displays of veteran and vintage cycle cars.

As a background to the non-stop racing, on Sunday May 26 there will be a classic car show featuring pre 1975 vintage and veteran cars, sports and classics, hotrods and custom cars, street machines and motorbikes.

Historic commercial and military vehicles will also be on show, as will a line-up of pre 1975 Australian utes.

On Friday May 24, the Benalla and District Classic Car and Motorbike Tour, which is supported by the RACV, Benalla Rural City Council and The Austin 7 Club, will take place, followed by a show ‘n’ shine outside the Benalla civic centre from 3pm. Red-plate vehicles will be welcome.
