$450K price tag for Honda NSX?

Honda refuses to confirm pricing for NSX flagship, but near-$450K estimate firms

Honda Australia has confirmed a November 2016 launch of its NSX hybrid supercar but is still refusing to confirm its price.

Speaking to motoring.com.au this week at the local preview of the all-new Civic, Honda sales boss Stephen Collins said he "would not even speculate" on the NSX's market price Down Under.

The car recently went on sale in the USA (where it is badged as an Acura) at circa US$160,000 in low-spec form, before taxes and on-road costs. Most US-spec NSXs will hit the road closer to US$185K.

By way of comparison Porsche's 911 Turbo is priced from around US$160K stateside.

motoring.com.au sources have suggested Honda is currently projecting a price circa-$450,000 Down Under.

Collins confirmed deliveries of the car would commence in November (2016). However, when asked whether Honda Australia would be able to offer the NSX at less than $400,000 in Australia, he told motoring.com.au: "I don't know and I don't even want to speculate on what the price will be.

"The pricing has been announced in the US and, and in Europe… Look, we'll bring it in as best we can… I think in the next month or so, we'll have all that sorted. It's clearly a halo car and it's important to our brand."

Collins argued that the long gestation of the car had not tarnished its allure.

"Look, I don't think it's too late [going on sale]. It has been a long time in development, since the concept car was shown some years ago, but it's clearly not too late," Collins said.

"No matter where we price it or how many we sell, I think it's a brand halo car.

"When you drive it you will see that the technology's amazing. We're very, very happy that it's coming and, yeah, we're trying to get it [here] as quick as possible," Collins stated.
