A hard-core BMW M5 CS to be lunched later this year will become the fastest super sedan ever made by the Bavarian brand.
Created to sit above the recently upgraded BMW M5 Competition, the new M5 CS will follow in the wheel tracks of the M2 CS, M3 CS and M4 CS to become the car-maker's new performance flagship.
According to the respected
, the new BMW M5 CS will come with an uprated version of the M5's twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 that produces even more power and torque -- as much as 478kW and 800Nm.The all-wheel drive BMW M5 Competition produces 460kW/750Nm and is claimed to hit 100km/h in 3.3 seconds, so the M5 CS hit 100km/h in less than three seconds and top out at more than 320km/h.
Apart from higher outputs, the BMW M5 CS could come with weight-saving parts like a carbon-fibre roof panel in a bid to out-perform cars like the Audi RS6 wagon and Mercedes-AMG E63 S, an upgraded version of which was also recently revealed ahead of its local arrival later this year.
Another area in which the first BMW M5 CS will shed kilos is a new carbon-ceramic brake system comprising drilled discs and lighter callipers.
Visually, the BMW M5 CS is expected to feature subtle tweaks to the BMW M5 Competition's carbon-clad exterior design, upping the drama and improving stability at very high speeds.
These include a reprofiled front bumper, side skirts and rear spoiler.
Reflecting the increased performance and reduced mass, the M5 CS will ride on a retuned chassis with springs and dampers more suited to fast road and track driving.
Tipped to be priced around $US10,000 ($A14,500) higher than the current M5 Competition ($234,900), the M5 CS could top $250K in Australia, where only a handful of examples are likely to be offered.
There's no indication yet when the first BMW M5 CS will be unveiled.
