DS has released pictures and details of a wild 600kW supercar that is said to showcase the Stellantis-owned car-maker's all-electric future.
Made entirely out of carbon-fibre, the 2022 DS E-Tense Performance features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain derived from the company's latest Formula E car that produces an incredible 8000Nm at the wheels.
Performance figures are yet to be released, but DS says the coupe pictured is a working prototype that will be driven by its Formula E works drivers, Jean Eric Vergne and Antonio Felix da Costa.
New technology developed in the creation of the DS E-Tense Performance include a compact battery that sits low in the chassis in a carbon-aluminium housing.
No details on the new battery have been released but it's claimed to feature 'innovative' battery chemistry and next-gen thermal management.
Despite being fitted with brakes, the DS E-Tense Performance packs powerful 600kW maximum regenerative braking that almost renders the the car's usual stoppers redundant.
As well as the new tech, the DS E-Tense Performance also introduces the brand's futuristic design language planned for its new family of all-electric cars that make their debut from 2024.
There's no word on whether a supercar or even a sports coupe will be among the next-gen offerings, but expect the brand's range of SUVs, hatches and sedans to share the concept's arrowhead LED lighting signature that's made up of more than 800 individual LEDs.
The sharp frontal design includes plenty of aerodynamic enhancements, while the large 21-inch aero rims are also tipped to make it to production.
What isn't likely to make it to the road are the cameras that replace headlights and collect data for autonomous driving.
Inside, there's a pair of bucket seats and a steering wheel borrowed from a Formula E race car.
Originally created as a premium offshoot of Citroen back in 2009, DS became a standalone brand in 2015 but only lasted in Australia until 2017, when the French brand was culled due to poor sales.
There are no plans at this stage for the brand to return to Australia.
