Just 30 units of the limited edition Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition convertible will be available in Australia, priced from $46,950 drive-away for the month of June.
The unique models' drawcard feature is a louder engine acoustic via the fitment of the 'Record Monza' exhaust system.
A tip of the hat to Carlo Abarth, who broke numerous records at the Monza race track in Italy, the new exhaust system features a mechanically triggered valve that will "optimise and improve the exhaust backpressure curve in the exhaust system, creating an exhaust note that ignites the senses," according to Abarth.
"The legacy of Carlo Abarth has driven the production of some of the world's most exciting motor vehicles and this Monza Special Edition continues the realisation of his passion," said Fulvio Antonelli, Director of Abarth Brand Australia.
Despite the extra plumbing, there's no change to the car's 1.4-litre turbo-petrol's power output of 125kW/250Nm, so expect a top speed of just over 230km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint of 6.8secs to remain.
Based on the same platform as the Mazda MX-5 and built at the same Japanese factory in Hiroshima, the Abarth 124 Spider Monza Edition is available in only three colours, red, white or black.
Standard features on the brash new limited-run Abarth 124 Spider include a numbered plaque in the cockpit, which includes a laser etched map of the Monza circuit, red-on-black ribbed leather seats, and a Visibility Pack.
The latter adds LED daytime running lights along with auto levelling and adaptive (turning) LED head lights, blind spot detection, rear cross traffic alert and a rear parking assistance system.
The drive-away pricing will end after June and rise to $47,850, pending stock levels.
