Abarth 595 Competizione gets more power
Italian tearaway has power boosted from 118kW to 132kW – hits 100km/h in just 6.7sFiat has given its Abarth 595 Competizione more power and torque as part of a mid-life refresh.
Sticking with the same turbocharged 1.4-litre turbo petrol, the revised 595 now comes with 132kW/250N – up from the current car’s 118kW/230Nm.
Not surprisingly the increased output has resulted in a significant improvement in performance. Now the 0-100km/h sprint takes just 6.7 seconds while top speed is 225km/h – 0.7s quicker and 15km/h faster than the 118kW version.
Despite the big bump in power, and aside from a new colour called Officina Red, there have been no changes to the standard long list of kit in the Competizione.
In Europe the more powerful Abarth is already on sale but it’s not yet clear when the revised 595 will arrive Down Under.
Even with the extra boost, the Abarth 595 is not the fastest 500 in the range. That honour goes to what the Italian car-maker describes as, ‘the world’s smallest super’ – the Abarth 695 Biposto. The track-bred Biposto comes with 140kW/250Nm but, thanks to some weight saving and options like a dog-box, can sprint to 100km/h in just 5.9 seconds before topping out at 230km/h.
Pricing for the fastest ever 500 starts at an eye-watering $65,000 and ends at well over a jaw-dropping $101,000.
