There's a new collectible car on sale through Fiat Abarth dealers in Australia. Named the Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati, it's the sort of car you might park in the garage next to your 695 Tributo Ferrari. At $60,000 it's significantly cheaper than the Ferrari tribute car, but still a car for the well heeled. Its resale value is likely to hold up pretty well though, given just 499 units have been built for worldwide consumption, and only 40 are making their way down here. That makes the Edizione Maserati a little more exclusive than the Tributo Ferrari 45 (units imported), despite being cheaper.
Powered by the Tributo Ferrari's same 1.4-litre turbo engine, which develops 132kW and 250Nm, the Edizione Maserati also shares its MTA (automated manual transmission) with shift paddles. The engine fires back through a 'dual mode' exhaust which has been tuned to deliver optimal performance and a sporty note.
Wheels are 17-inch alloys with a design that was inspired by Maserati, and the tyres measure 205/40 R17. Other underpinnings include Brembo disc brakes for all four wheels and Koni dampers for the lowered suspension.
Only one colour is available for the Edizione Maserati – 'Pontevecchio Bordeaux' – a colour taken from Maserati's own selection and applied to the tiny Abarth in three layers. The 695 Edizione Maserati is based on the 500C (cabriolet) with a roll-top roof in Titanium grey fabric. Matte carbon fibre decorative trim adheres to the dashboard and gearshift plinth. Inner panels for the doors and the rear seat area are treated with a UV-Lux chemical that creates a grey flock effect. Aluminium pedals and sill plates (the latter with carbon fibre inserts and Abarth 695 Edizione Maserati graphics) are a further highlight.
Jaeger supplied the instruments for the car and the steering wheel is bound in black leather and incorporates beige leather inserts around the tri-colour hub. Seats feature an embossed '695' logo and are trimmed in sand beige leather. A set of complementary Tramontano luggage (also leather) is included as standard equipment for the car.
Comfort and convenience features comprise climate control, satellite navigation and nine-speaker JBL audio system. Each car is sold with an individual build plate and offers the safety of xenon headlights.
