ABT Sportline and Volkswagen Commercial have teamed up to create a pure-electric version of the 2020 VW Transporter.
The resulting ABT e-Transporter 6.1 is available in both left-hand drive and right-hand drive markets and is based on either the long-wheelbase panel van, Kombi or Caravelle body styles.
Powered by a modestly-sized 32.5kWh lithium-ion battery, the e-Transporter has a WLTP-certified range of 138km.
ABT, which in the past earned a reputation for its monstrously-fast Audi or VW creations, says the e-Transporter's top speed is limited to either 90km/h or 120km/h.
Driven by a single electric motor that musters 83kW and 200Nm of torque, the maximum load capacity is said to be impacted by the 333kg battery pack, but the e-Transporter can still haul 977 to 1096kg.
The Kombi or Caravelle versions, meanwhile, can carry up to nine passengers.
Charging the e-Transporter, which was created specifically for use as an urban delivery or shuttle vehicle, via a 7.5kW AC wall box is said to take 5.5 hours, although using a 50kW rapid charger takes just 45 minutes for an 80 per cent top up.
In Germany the ABT e-Transporter 6.1 is available through official Volkswagen dealers priced from from a cool €44,990 ($A82,000), and the option of right-hand drive could see the electric van one day being offered in the UK and, even, Australia if there's demand.
