Added equipment for upgraded Suzuki Swift

Production base relocation to Thailand brings Bluetooth and cruise to mid-range variants
Suzuki has finessed the equipment list for its Swift light hatch, offering ex-factory Bluetooth and cruise control as standard in the intermediate level Swift GL.
The upgrade, which coincides with the shift to Thailand as the source for Australian-delivered Swifts, costs buyers $300 more, but Suzuki claims the upgrade is worth $850. Prices remain unchanged for the base-grade Swift GA and the flagship Swift GLX, despite the range-topping model scoring standard cruise control also.
“We promised cruise control would become standard on the GL and GLX at launch and we are following through on that undertaking,” Suzuki Australia Automobile General Manager Tony Devers was quoted as saying in a press release issued today.
“With the addition of these customer wants, the Swift becomes even better value for money. We have added features worth $850 to the GL, but the price has increased by just $300. And despite adding cruise control to the GLX the price for our most luxurious Swift remains unchanged.”
Suzuki's decision to move production of the Swift to Thailand at a time when the Japanese government is devaluing the yen in order to improve the viability of manufactured exports seems untimely. But it's part of Suzuki's longer-term global business strategy and sets the new factory in Thailand on the road to success by maximising its potential at the earliest opportunity. The factory is sure to meet the standards set for it by Suzuki, says Devers.
“We’ve conducted several inspections of the plant and the product and come away extremely impressed by the quality.
“It’s indicative of Suzuki’s obsession with quality control. We have numerous global factories in sites including India, China, Indonesia and Hungary and the vehicles are all made to the same standards, irrespective of where they are produced.”
Changes to the specification of the Swift GL have resulted in new prices of $16,990 for the manual or $18,990 for the auto. Prices remain where they were, at $15,990 for the manual GA or $18,990 for the manual GLX – plus a $2000 automatic option available for both. The only option available is premium/metallic paint, at a cost of $475.
