Added kit, lower prices for VW Polo

Volkswagen's light-segment contender now starts from below $17K

Change remains the one constant in the Australian light-car segment. Just to maintain the status quo, Volkswagen has announced today that the starting price of the five-door Polo is reduced to $16,990.

As we reported back in October, the three-door Polo was axed in the local market, to make way for the Up!, but now the company has spiced up the appeal of the Polo range with the lower pricing — and a better equipment specification.

Bluetooth and the Media Device Interface (MDI) are now standard features across the range, and the Polo moves to daytime running lights. At the upper end of the range, the Polo GTI gains an RCD510 touchscreen audio system, climate control, rain-sensing wipers and electro-chromatic mirror.

Polo pricing:
Polo Trendline five-speed manual — $16,990*
Polo Trendline seven-speed DSG — $19,490*
Polo 77TSI Comfortline six-speed manual — $18,990*
