How to check your air filter

Dusty Outback roads can clog your car’s air filter quickly, here’s how to keep an eye on it

Driving on the unsealed roads of the Australian Outback is a unique experience topped with a number of hazards unique to this part of the world. The fine, powdery dust, often known as ‘bull dust’, raised when driving is chief among these hazards, and can quickly clog your car’s air filter should you let it go unchecked. Fortunately, a simple inspection at regular intervals is a great way of ensuring your air cleaner element is filtering clean air to your engine before the Outback’s fine dust and grit has a chance of damaging your engine’s precious internal parts.
