Affordable Fisker PEAR EV teased

Californian-based EV brand’s second model set for 2024 debut, priced from around $40,000

Fisker has begun teasing its follow-up to the 2022 Fisker Ocean SUV – a five-seat compact crossover known as the PEAR that will debut in 2024, priced from a targeted $US29,900 ($A40,500).

The first picture released on Fisker's social media appears to suggest the 2024 Fisker PEAR will share its snub nose, wraparound windscreen and flared wheel-arches with the Ocean and borrow the larger SUV's front and rear light bars.

The latest Fisker EV's name stands for Personal Electric Automotive Revolution (PEAR) and it's designed to be much more affordable compared to the Californian car-maker's bigger Ocean that's priced from $US37,499 to $US68,999 ($A52,500-$A96,000),

The car is claimed to combine "sustainability, technology and design into a digitally connected" package.

It's thought Fisker's reference to "agile ... urban mobility device" suggests the car-maker sees its rival as not only EVs like the Hyundai Kona Electric (from $54,500) but also smaller battery-electric cars like the MINI Electric (from $54,800) and Nissan LEAF (from $60,490).

To be built at a US plant in Ohio in partnership with Foxconn, it's thought to keep costs down the PEAR will be based on the Taiwanese tech giant's recently developed EV architecture.

There's no word on what powertrains will be offered in the Fisker PEAR, nor how large its battery pack will be. But high-grade models are set to benefit from Fisker's advanced nickel manganese cobalt battery that could see the PEAR cover up to 700km between top-ups.

Announcing plans to produce 250,000 examples of the PEAR annually, Fisker has invited prospective buyers to place a $US250 ($A350) deposit to reserve a spot for the first 2024 deliveries.

With confirmation that Fisker plans to sell cars in Europe, the US start-up has yet to confirm whether or not developing cars for right-hand drive is part of its strategy. If so, a launch in the UK could be followed shortly after by a debut Down Under.
