AIMS: Porsche rushes out 911 Carrera 4S

Fresh from Paris, 911 with all-paw performance is fast-tracked Down Under
Porsche Cars Australia has set a new record bringing a Carrera 4S to Australia, just weeks after the Carrera 4's global debut in Paris and over three months ahead of its retail launch in Australia.
An urgent order was placed with the factory at Zuffenhausen for the wide body 4S, which is finished in Agate Grey, with Carrera Red leather interior.
As the name suggests, the Carrera 4S is the high-performance version of the all-wheel drive 911 in its latest 991-generation guise. As much as 16 per cent more economical and 65kg lighter, the 911 Carrera 4 is distinguished from the rear-drive models by the 44mm wider body, housing tyres that are 10mm wider.
The Carrera 4 gets its power to the ground through front and rear wheels via the Porsche Traction Management system, which appropriately feeds out the torque from the flat six engine and seven-speed manual transmission. Porsche also offers the Carrera 4 with PDK, the Porsche Doppelkupplung (Porsche double-clutch) transmission, as an option.
Both the Carrera 4 and 4S are available in Coupe and Cabriolet (convertible) form, with the lower-powered model featuring a 3.4-litre engine good for 257kW. The Coupe will top 100km/h from a standing start in 4.5 seconds (4.7 for the Cabriolet), with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions numbers with the PDK variants respectively scaling 8.6L/100km and 203g/km (Coupe), or 8.7L/100km and 205g/km for the Cabriolet.
With its 3.8-litre engine, the Carrera 4S develops 294kW and will reach 100km/h in 4.1 seconds (4.3 for the Cabriolet). Fuel consumption and CO2 emissions – for the PDK versions – are 9.1L/100km and 215g/km (Coupe) or 9.2L/100km and 217g/km (Cabriolet).
The all-wheel drive Carrera models come with a display to inform the driver of the Porsche Traction Management system's operational status. Other features introduced with the Carrera 4 include Adaptive Cruise Control and a sliding glass sunroof for the Coupe variants. PDK-equipped cars bundle together Porsche Active Safe (PAS) with the Active Cruise Control to reduce the potential for nose-to-tail collisions. And manual cars specified with the Sport Chrono pack now double-declutches on downshifts in Sport Plus mode.
Prices for the manual cars are as follows:
911 Carrera 4 Coupe $255,400
911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet $280,900
911 Carrera 4S Coupe $289,400
911 Carrera 4S Cabriolet $315,000
PDK adds $5950 to the purchase price.
