Alfa Romeo 4C Designer’s Cut sports car teased

Special one-off Alfa Romeo 4C to mark 10th anniversary of coupe and roadster

Marking a decade since the Alfa Romeo 4C first entered production, the Italian car-maker has announced it will launch a special one-off 4C Designer’s Cut that’s expected to pay tribute to some of the past Alfas that inspired the now-discontinued sports car.

Created by the Alfa Romeo Style Centre and Alessandro Maccolini, who designed the original 4C production car, the 4C Designer’s Cut is said to capture the “authentic Italian style and driving pleasure embodied by the original 4C”.

Maccolini has already created three aesthetic themes for the special model, while also inviting Alfa fans to express their own opinions on how the car should look.

The first is the 4C Tributo that is said to honour the history of Alfa Romeo, including the iconic shade of red.

Interestingly, the car pictured behind the rosso 4C is the iconic 1967 33 Stradale that could hint at the one-off.

The next model is the 4C Corsa that is said to focus on the brand’s racing heritage.

Finally, the 4C Leggenda is said to refer to the famous car-maker’s sportiness and pictures a Giulia Sprint GT behind it.

It’s not yet clear if Maccolini will embark on a full reskin of the Alfa Romeo 4C or if he will simply introduce a special anniversary livery. There’s also no date on when it will be unwrapped.

Powered by a 177kW/350Nm 1.75-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol, the stunning-looking ultra-lightweight 4C was underpinned by an advanced carbon-fibre monocoque that was usually the preserve of hypercars.

Blighted by unresolved chassis dynamics over its near-seven-year production run, during which more than 9000 cars were sold, the 4C never received the acclaim (or sales success) its makers hoped, although it did help the brand relaunch in the US.
