Ahead of its move to become a pure-electric brand from 2027, Alfa will bid farewell to its mighty twin-turbo V6 with a wild all-new supercar dubbed the Alfa Romeo 6C.
Releasing the first teaser that previews the Alfa Romeo 6C name, the Italian car-maker’s decision to resurrect the famous nameplate pays tribute to the famous road and race cars that carried the 6C badge from 1927 to 1954.
Despite the tribute to the 6C thoroughbreds, the new 2023 Alfa Romeo 6C is expected to draw heavy stylistic influence from the stunning 1967 Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale.
No details have been released yet. However, like the smaller Alfa Romeo 4C, the 6C supercar is set to be based on a carbon-fibre monocoque tub and feature a mid-mounted combustion engine.
Speaking of which, the Italian supercar is almost certain to pack a development of the Ferrari-derived 2.9-litre twin-turbo petrol V6, which in the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA produces 397kW and 600Nm. Outputs should be wound up for the 6C.
Channelling the power to the rear wheels is expected to be the same Tremec eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that is used in both the Maserati MC20 and the Chevrolet Corvette C8.
There’s no word yet on when the Alfa Romeo 6C will be revealed, but some reports suggest the limited run of six-figure supercars could be unwrapped as soon as March.
When it lands, the Alfa 6C will be the long-awaited replacement for the 8C Competizione supercar – the run of svelte coupes and Spider drop-tops sold from 2007 to 2010.
Back in 2018, Alfa’s then owner, FCA, hinted that the 8C was set to be replaced with a 450kW-plus hybrid-powered coupe.
However, plans for the Alfa flagship were thought to have been quietly dropped following the brand’s takeover by new parent Stellantis.
