Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglio NRING revealed

High-spec editions pay homage to Alfa’s Nurburgring exploits

Alfa Romeo Australia has announced pricing for two new special editions based on the Giulia Quadrifoglio sedan and Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV.

The NRING special editions will be available in Australia in September priced from $182,900 for the Giulia Quadrifoglio NRING and $189,900 for the Stelvio Quadrifoglio NRING. Each represents a circa $35,000 premium over their donor cars, though Alfa Romeo says there is much more standard equipment.

Despite the performance focus, neither variant offers a change in engine outputs – though they admittedly start from a solid base. The other caveat is limited production: just four examples of the Giulia NRING have been slated for Oz, and three Stelvios.

Paying tribute to Alfa’s success at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany, the limited edition models are best distinguished by their paintwork, a ‘Circuito Grey’ matte hue punctuated by carbon-fibre grille inserts and exterior mirrors, along with an exposed carbon-fibre roof and carbon-ceramic brakes with red painted calipers.

The Giulia wears 18-inch ‘Dark Miron’ alloys and NRING badging, while the Stelvio employs 20-inch alloys and a panoramic sunroof.

The racey theme pervades the interior, too, with leather and Alcantara, red accents, Sparco carbon-fibre front seats, lashing of carbon-fibre trim and a sports steering wheel.

Despite the performance bent, the Giulia Quadrifoglio NRING makes use of an identical 375kW/600Nm 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol mated to an eight-speed automatic.

The Stelvio Quadrifoglio NRING employs the same engine and transmission but trades rear-wheel drive for all-wheel drive.

Alfa set new benchmarks around the Nurburgring with both cars with times that have since been surpassed.

In 2016, the Alfa Romeo Giulia bested the Porsche Panamera Turbo with a 7min32sec lap of the German circuit.

In 2017, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio set a time of just 7:51.07 seconds, lapping the ring more than 25 seconds faster than the previous record holder, the 405kW Range Rover Sport SVR.

“The NRING limited edition models take the Quadrifoglio line-up to the next level,” said Alfa Romeo director of brand and product strategy Guillaume Drelon.

“The Quadrifoglio range was specifically designed to be the fastest production SUV and five-passenger sedan to take on the Nurburgring and both achieved that goal.

"The NRING Limited Editions celebrates that triumph and those who strive to set the pace, in an absolutely unique and exclusive manner.”
