Alfa Romeo Australia is “working seriously” on slotting the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA into its high-performance portfolio, confirming that the 400kW-plus special-edition sports sedan is high on its priority list for this market.
Alfa Romeo Australia’s director of product strategy, Guillaume Drelon, revealed today that the company was pulling out all stops to receive a local allocation for the Giulia GTA, which is limited to just 500 units worldwide.
“Definitely, we are working on it. We are pushing to get it for Australia,” Drelon said.
“It’s not yet confirmed but it’s something we’re working on seriously.”
Powered by a high-output version of the Ferrari-developed 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA generates 402kW of power – up from 375kW in the award-winning Giulia Quadrifoglio – thanks to upgraded engine internals and an Akrapovic exhaust system.
The peak torque figure hasn’t been revealed yet, but Alfa has said the red-hot Italian rear-drive sedan will rip from 0-100km/h in just 3.6sec, three-tenths quicker than the Giulia Quadrifoglio.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA has been on a strict diet of carbon-fibre, with the driveshaft, sports seats, roof, wheel-arches, front bumper and bonnet all made from the lightweight material, slashing around 100kg from the kerb weight.
Upgrades to the suspension and aerodynamics, including a massive rear wing and active front splitter, will also improve high-speed dynamic performance.
The wider, lower model can be ordered in track-ready GTAm guise as well, which removes the rear seats and adds a fire extinguisher, FIA-spec half roll cage, race seats and six-point Sabelt harnesses.
Pricing is unknown at this stage, but given the Giulia Quadrifoglio currently starts at $138,950 plus on-road costs, the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA – and particularly the GTAm version – could stretch close to $200K.
