Alfa Romeo Giulietta priced to entice

New variants and a new entry-level position to place stylish small car on more shopping lists
Alfa Romeo has introduced four new variants for the Giulietta small car, and the new base model is priced at just $25,000 with on-road costs included.
The entry-level model is simply badged 'Giulietta' and is powered by an 88kW/206Nm 1.4-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder, coupled to a six-speed manual gearbox. There is no self-shifting transmission option at this level, but the new 'Progression' grade offers Alfa's twin-clutch transmission (TCT) as an option for the variant powered by the 125kW/250Nm version of the base model's engine.
The TCT is also available (but as standard) with the diesel engine option in the Giulietta Progression. That engine, a four-cylinder diesel displacing 2.0 litres, develops 125kW and 350Nm. In this level of trim, the two transmission options for the petrol engine, and the diesel with TCT make up three of the four new variants, with the base model in manual form only the fourth new variant.
The entry-level Giulietta features the following equipment as standard: DNA system, electronic differential, Hill Holder, 16-inch steel wheels, auto-start/stop system, dual front airbags, side-impact front airbags, side curtain airbags, six-speaker MP3-compatible CD audio system with remote controls on the steering wheel,  electric windows, rain-sensing wipers and dusk-sensing headlights.
Additional features fitted as standard to the Giulietta Progression comprise: 16-inch five-twin-spoke design alloy wheels, driver’s seat electric lumbar adjustment, electric fold-in exterior mirrors and rear-seat centre armrest.
One grade higher is the Giulietta Distinctive, which comes equipped as standard with these additional items: 17-inch turbine-design alloy wheels, front fog lights, chrome kit, alarm, reverse parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, humidity and odour sensor, rear-seat vents, electrochromatic mirror, satellite navigation, eight-speaker audio and 'Competizione' fabric upholstery.
Heading the range is the Giulietta QV, which adds: 18-inch turbine-design alloy wheels, red brake callipers, dark tinted privacy glass, QV dash panel, 10-speaker Bose audio system , aluminium sports pedals and aluminium door sill kick plates.
“Earlier this year we outlined a new pricing structure for the Fiat and Alfa Romeo brands to make these iconic Italian vehicles more affordable and more accessible to the Australian market,” said Veronica Johns, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Group Australia, as quoted in a press release issued today.
“The introduction of an expanded Giulietta range is the next step in our repositioning program for Alfa Romeo and we’re confident the significant improvements we’ve made to the value equation for this vehicle line will attract the attention of new car buyers.”
Prices for the expanded Giulietta range are as follows:
Giulietta 1.4 TB (88kW manual) - $25,000 drive-away
Giulietta Progression 1.4 TB MultiAir (125kW manual ) - $27,450
