Alfa Romeo has announced fresh details of its all-new Junior SUV, including two powertrain options, ahead of its local arrival in the third quarter of 2025.
Set to arrive by September, the inbound small SUV will be offered with a mild-hybrid petrol engine dubbed ‘Ibrida’, as well as the fully-electric ‘Elettrica’ that uses a single electric motor to deliver 115kW/260Nm.
The Elettrica comes with a single 54kWh battery option, which Alfa says will deliver up to 407km of driving range and tips the scales at just 1545kg.
Good for a zero to 100km/h sprint time in 9.0 seconds, the Junior Elettrica isn’t the quickest electric SUV but a more powerful Junior Veloce electric SUV is expected to arrive later, producing a mightier 207kW to help the Italian car-maker outmuscle the like of the Abarth 500e and 600e, the base Cupra Born, and all single-motor variants of the larger Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6.
But if you don’t need that much grunt – or simply don’t want an EV – the Ibrida (hybrid) is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that combines a six-speed dual-clutch, a 48-volt lithium-ion battery and a small 21kW electric motor, to deliver combined outputs of 100kW/230Nm.
Interestingly, the lighter mild-hybrid Ibrida sprints to 100km/h from standstill 0.1 seconds faster than its electric sibling (8.9 sec), and is said to sip as little as 4.1L/100km.
Both the EV and MHEV are front-wheel drive and all come covered by a five-year/unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty, while the battery in electric versions gets coverage for eight-years or 160,000km.
The pint-sized Junior measures up at 4.17m long, 1.78m wide, and 1.5m in height, and brings premium features such as full LED matrix headlights and LED tail lights, massage seats, a leather steering wheel, and two-tone paint as standard.
Alfa says the Junior pays homage to icons of its past. As such, the front grille features the iconic “leggenda scudetto” and laser-etched "biscione" (serpent) features on the C-pillar.
A truncated tail dubbed “coda tronca” is said to ensure style and performance.
Inside the cabin, every Junior gets a pair of 10.25-inch screens with digital radio, navigation, and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, along with eight-colour ambient interior lighting, and Alfa’s DNA driving modes.
Other standard features include 18-inch Petali diamond cut alloy wheels, gloss black exterior body kit, tinted windows, and a height adjustable cargo floor.
Exclusive to the Junior Ibrida are paddle shifters and dual tail pipes.
It also comes well-equipped in the safety department, with autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, traffic sign recognition, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, drowsy driver monitoring, rain sensing wipers, six airbags, and more.
Six exterior colour options – all with a black roof as standard – include: White Sempione, Black Tortona, Red Brera, Blue Navigli, Arese Steel and Galleria Light Grey.
Inside, the only option for the Junior is a black-red pattern ‘Spiga’ upholstery made of leatherette and cloth.
