High-performance versions of Alfa Romeo's first battery-electric vehicles are set to be badged Quadrifoglio when they go on sale in 2024.
According to Autocar, the news that Quadrifoglio will live on post full electrification is part of a "bold new product plan" that will see the famous Italian brand introduce one new model per year between now and 2025.
The first to arrive will be the Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV in 2022, followed by a smaller SUV in 2023 that's tipped to be called the Alfa Romeo Brennero.
But it's 2024 when the first pure-electric models will land.
The still-secret all-new models are set to be based on either the Stellantis group's heavily updated EMP2 (renamed eVMP) platform or the all-new STLA Large architecture, with Alfa's new boss Jean-Philippe Imparato confirming they'll be offered with both battery-electric and traditional internal-combustion power.
“I will launch in 2024 the full BEV version of the first Alfa Romeo to be fully electrified,” said Imparato. “I will have one trim, with two engines: one side will be 100 per cent electrified, but it will be on top of that my first full BEV.”
The Brit mag claims multiple pure-electric versions will be offered, including a sporty version that will carry Quadrifoglio badging.
Officially commenting on fast electric cars, Imparato said: "For all our models launched, I will always study the possibility to make a performance version of the car that will be fully consistent with the product portfolio message we send. If I consider that I’m not able to offer the right level of performance steps of Quadrifoglio, I will not do a Quadrifoglio version."
As well as high-performance electric cars, the former Peugeot boss said other future models introduced from 2025 until 2030 would focus on autonomous driving.
Imparato also confirmed work had begun to revive the brand's iconic Spider Duetto as an electric sports car, with design proposals already in progress.
However, he cautioned that it would only be introduced if Alfa's fortunes improve.
"I have the car; I’ve showed it to dealers,” Imparato said. “But I would not dare to put that on the table to Carlos Tavares until I'm completely secure in terms of market share."
Another car on Imparato's wish list is a reborn Alfa Romeo GTV, which could debut before the revived roadster.
If rumours prove correct, the Italian brand is planning to use the beloved GTV nameplate on a two- or four-seat sports car that will spearhead Alfa Romeo's new family of EVs.
