The relentlessly cryptic social media teaser campaign for Alfa Romeo’s upcoming electric SUV has hit top gear as the big reveal draws nearer, with the latest missive being a curious name drop hint.
The Italian brand recently took to X (Twitter), where it posted a new video clip rattling off several co-ordinates in quick succession, one of which could point to the nameplate of the all-new light SUV to be positioned below the Tonale.
Previous teasers and local trademarks indicated the upcoming Jeep Avenger and Fiat 600e sibling would be badged as the Alfa Romeo Visconti, but now there’s speculation the city SUV could instead be called the ‘Brennero’ – derived from the Brenner Pass, which was pointed to by one of the co-ordinates in the new teaser clip.

The Brenner Pass is the lowest alpine pass in the Italian car-maker’s region, connecting Sterzing (Italy) with Innsbruck (Austria) via a 49km stretch of motorway with a maximum elevation of 1341m.
Internet sleuths are therefore predicting Alfa’s smallest SUV – and the indirect replacement for its pint-size MiTo hatch – will be called the Brennero (or Brenner), which would be consistent with the nameplates of the bigger Tonale and Stelvio SUVs, both of which are named after well-known Italian mountain passes.
Indeed, Google Maps identifies the Brenner Pass as part of the optimum route between Milan (Alfa’s traditional home) and Innsbruck, so there is absolutely merit to the theory.
Whatever the new model ends up being called, the baby Alfa will share the bulk of its DNA with the aforementioned Jeep and Fiat, so you can expect a circa-115kW electric motor, 54kWh battery pack and effective range of “more than” 400km.
The Alfa will likely blend these mechanicals with a sharper aesthetic and a sportier chassis set-up, and the debut EV version should be followed by small-capacity internal combustion engine-powered variants in 2025 or 2026.
We don’t know yet if the Alfa Romeo Visconti/Brennero or Fiat 600e will be offered Down Under, but the previously cited trademark submission and the pending introduction of the Jeep Avenger in Australia suggests Alfa’s new range-opener could very much be on the cards for local showrooms.
Alfa’s new baby is expected to make its global debut early next year and could even be released here by the end of 2024, unless Alfa Romeo Australia decides to wait for the ICE versions.
