The teaser campaign for the upcoming 2023 RAM Revolution is building up steam ahead of the all-electric full-size pick-up concept’s global reveal on January 5, with the latest instalment giving us a glimpse of the front-end and overall silhouette via a new social media clip.
The American truck specialist has been teasing a battery-electric version of its best-selling RAM 1500 for the best part 10 months now and this new video is the first time we’ve been given a look at the physical vehicle, even if it is just a clay model and rolling shell.
Very little has actually been revealed about the Revolution beyond its inclusion of digital wing mirrors, a long-teased squinting front lighting signature and an aerodynamically optimised tub – or at least more aerodynamic sports bars – but there’s plenty of hype-building being done by designers.
“What does RAM in the future look like? Fierce. Slick. Heroic,” said one.
“The RAM Revolution is really a glimpse into the future,” said another.
The teaser clip also gives pick-up fans a preliminary look at some of the cabin materials under study for the battery-powered RAM, including rich-looking brown leather and some other darker – and presumably more sustainable – materials.
Odds are we’ll see at least another couple of teasers between now and the Revolution’s reveal at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) next month, but it should be noted the vehicle set to be shown will be a near-production concept as opposed to the finished product.
The production version has been confirmed by Stellantis for release as a 2024 model year vehicle, which in North America usually translates to a release by the end of the prior year, meaning the production RAM 1500 EV will probably enter US showrooms in the second half of next year.
As for when we’ll see it Down Under, however, that’s anyone’s guess at this stage.
The Revolution will be underpinned by Stellantis’ new purpose-built ‘STLA Frame’ pick-up platform, which is said to accommodate huge EV batteries with up to 200kWh of capacity.
Previous intel has nominated an expected driving range of up to 800km – roughly 150km further than the Chevrolet Silverado EV and Ford F-150 Lightning.
None of these three full-size electric pick-up trucks have so far been confirmed for Australia, but all of them are a good chance for eventual local release, given the RAM 1500, Chevrolet Silverado and – soon – Ford F-150 are already ‘remanufactured’ in right-hand drive form via official factory-backed channels in Melbourne.
