All-electric Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV previewed

Skoda has released new digital renders of the upcoming coupe version of the pure-electric 2022 Skoda Enyaq iV that give us our clearest look yet at what will become the brand's flagship model in Australia when it lands in the second half of this year.

Adopting coupe lines, the drawings suggest the new Skoda Enyaq iV Coupe will come with a sloped roofline, muscular rear haunches and sportier side skirts.

And while the frontal styling will be shared with the regular Skoda Enyaq iV Sportline, the deeper front grille and more angular vents hint at differences on the coupe.

Other changes to help distinguish the all-electric coupe-SUV include a full-width LED light bar that links the two headlights and a body-coloured main grille.

Those headlights also look different, and are expected to feature the brand's latest matrix LED tech.

Thanks to its fastback styling, Skoda designers have managed to slash the drag coefficient on the Enyaq iV Coupe to a figure of just 0.23Cd (down from the wagon's 0.25Cd) – a number claimed to be best-in-class and one that matches the Tesla Model Y.

Slipping through the air easier than the standard all-electric wagon, Skoda claims on average the iV Coupe will cover up to 535km between top-ups – around 10-15km more than the standard Enyaq.

Developed in conjunction with the Volkswagen ID.5 and Audi Q4 e-tron, the VW Group's Czech marque hopes to poach buyers from a plethora of rivals including Tesla.

The coupe version of the Enyaq iV measures 4653mm in length and 1617mm in height, making it 4mm longer and 1mm higher than its SUV sibling. Width (1879mm) and wheelbase (2765mm) are unchanged, while luggage space is 570 litres – 15L less than the wagon.

Inside, expect the coupe to look and feel almost identical to the Enyaq iV SUV with a large 13.0-inch infotainment system dominating the cabin that's supplemented by a further 5.3-inch touch-screen.

Lightening up the interior, all versions will come with a standard heat-reflective panoramic roof.

Once launched there will be a choice of batteries – 62kWh and 82kWh power packs, combined with either a rear- or all-wheel driveline.

The model range will comprise the rear-drive Skoda Enyaq Coupe iV 60 (132kW) and Enyaq Coupe iV 80 (150kW), while the all-wheel drive Enyaq Coupe iV 80x Sportline (195kW) will top the range.

Set for a launch in Europe in the first half of 2022, the Skoda Enyaq is tipped to go on sale in Australia in the second half of this year.

There's no word yet on what price premium the more stylish iV Coupe version will carry.
