Volkswagen ID.1 teased with Skoda and Cupra EV siblings

Trio to replace Volkswagen Up, Skoda Citigo and Seat Mii, switching to all-electric crossover models

The Volkswagen Group has simultaneously previewed its upcoming entry-level electric cars by releasing design sketches of the Volkswagen ID.1, Cupra UrbanRebel and a yet-to-be-named Skoda model.

Set to debut in 2025, the biggest surprise is how much the Volkswagen baby EV's design has deviated from the well-received Volkswagen ID.Life concept that was unveiled last year at the IAA Munich motor show.

Instead of a boxier design, the upcoming 2025 Volkswagen ID.1 now appears more like a shrunken ID.3 hatchback.

Volkswagen's Spanish brand Cupra, meanwhile, seems settled on a production version of the UrbanRebel concept that was unveiled at the same show, although the name is set to change before it reaches the market.

Also set to be banished into the realms of concept fantasyland is the race car aero and mighty 320kW dual-motor powertrain for something more sedate and affordable.

The final member of the baby EV trilogy is the Skoda that, curiously, looks like it might be inspired by the ID.LIfe with its boxy shape that's set to maximise interior room.

All three models will be produced in the same Volkswagen-owned Spanish factory and will be based on the MEB Small architecture that mounts the electric motor on the front axle and drives the front wheels.

There's no word if a dual-motor version will be offered, but it's unlikely as the three will be priced from €20,000-€25,000 ($A30K-$A37K) in Europe.

Once introduced, a fourth Audi variant will make its debut that is set to push the premium envelope with more performance and a higher-grade cabin.
