As the sun sets on local Ford vehicle manufacturing in Australia, the annual All Ford Day held at Sydney’s Eastern Creek Dragway continues to gather strength.
The 2013 event will display a wide range of Ford badged vehicles, from buses to drag cars and “everything in between” in a celebration of the iconic brand that has been – and hopefully continues to be – a vital part of Australia’s car industry.
The organisers promise to display more than 1,000 Fords including Model T and current-generation Falcon GT, in a family-oriented event where there will be plenty of supplementary kid-friendly activities including pony rides and face painting.
The All Ford Day was first held in 1977 when a group of Ford-oriented car clubs got together to form the Combined Ford Clubs of NSW. One of the objectives was to develop an exclusive, combined show ‘n shine day featuring only vehicles wearing the Blue Oval.
The event was first held at the Warwick Farm car yard, then moved to the Warwick Farm racecourse for several years until it outgrew that venue and shifted to Eastern Creek, where it is conducted today.
Over the years the All Ford Day has donated the money raised to charities including the Westmead Children’s Hospital, which has received “many thousands” of dollars as a result.
The organisers say the event is now “one of the largest and longest running shows of its type in the southern hemisphere”. They also stipulate that vehicles entered must be in good shape – “primer, damaged vehicles or rust buckets will not be permitted entry.”
The charge for displaying a Ford is $20 per vehicle, payable on entry. Spectators are charged $5 and children under 12 are free.
Historically the All Ford Day has been conducted on the last Sunday in July, as close as possible to the birth of Henry Ford on July 30 1863.
