All-new, all-electric Maserati Quattroporte to debut next year

Smaller new-generation Italian limousine will replace both the Ghibli and the current Quattroporte

The next-generation 2024 Maserati Quattroporte will evolve away from its current status as a rival for the Audi A7, BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe, Mercedes-Benz CLS and Porsche Panamera, and instead become an all-electric fastback limousine aimed squarely at the Porsche Taycan.

We already knew the new Quattroporte would be all-electric for the first time, as part of Maserati’s commitment to sell only EVs from 2030.

But now, according to Autocar, the next-generation Maserati Quattroporte will become a smaller, more luxurious, electric-only replacement for both the existing model and the Ghibli large sedan (pictured here in Trofeo V8 form).

The Maserati Ghibli (pictured) is set to be replaced with a Taycan-like EV

Due to be launched globally next year, the new Quattroporte Folgore – Maserati’s third EV after the MC20 Folgore and GranTurismo Folgore – will ride on the Stellantis Group’s STLA architecture and offered exclusively with battery-electric powertrains.

No mechanical details have been confirmed yet, nor have there been any hype-stirring teaser images, but the flagship version should come with a dual- or even tri-motor drivetrain good for more than 746kW, meaning it could well eclipse the Gran Turismo Folgore.

An output like that would position Maserati’s new flagship sedan strongly alongside a growing number of big, premium EVs apart from the Taycan range – which is about to be topped by a new 746kW-plus GT flagship – including the Audi e-tron GT and BMW i7.

See those exhaust pipes? Not for much longer

Maserati CEO Davide Grasso told Autocar that new Quattroporte won’t be aimed at the mainstream executive market and that sales volume was no longer a major concern for the Italian brand.

“As a luxury brand, you want to choose what not to do, and then you choose what to do,” he said, adding that the new Quattroporte will stand out from the crowd thanks to its ‘Italian flair’, exclusivity and overt luxury appeal.

“We are not for everybody.

“We are for those that are willing to pay a premium to have a unique performance and luxury experience.”

The Quattroporte and Ghibli will be replaced by just one model

What exactly that means in terms of pricing remains unclear for the time being, but Grasso’s comments suggest the new Quattroporte will most likely be pricier than the current model, at least in part due to its EV powertrains.

Odds are the new Quattroporte will resemble something of an elongated, four-door Gran Turismo Folgore and measure somewhere around the 5.15m mark in terms of overall length.

However, its wheelbase is all but guaranteed to dwarf that of the current model’s already expansive 3171mm, which should spell similar rear legroom despite the shorter body.
