Holden has confirmed its all-new Spark micro-car will go on sale in April 2016.
Benefitting from a complete redesign to both interior and exterior, the Spark has had significant Australian engineering input, including a bespoke suspension tune developed for our market.
On top of this, Holden is positioning the new Spark as a segment technology leader.
“Spark takes the micro car segment to a new level with technological sophistication and composed driving manners,” says Holden Managing Director and Chairman Mark Bernhard.
“[It is] compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Spark offers connectivity and infotainment features previously unavailable in this segment. These are technologies that the target customers of this car will love.”
Holden says the Spark’s all-new architecture has a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, while the body has a lower profile. Thinner pillars aid visibility.
Inside, the Spark delivers ‘comparable spaciousness’ to what came before, with an improved driving position and upgraded interior materials.
A new 1.4-litre petrol four-cylinder engine powers the Spark. It generates 73kW/128Nm.
More importantly for Australians is the localised suspension tune. Holden engineers had a significant involvement in developing Spark’s ride and handling via extensive Australian-based development.
“Spark is a truly global car,” said Holden’s Director of Vehicle Performance, Ian Butler, “but our engineers have made sure it performs exceptionally in Australia’s varied road conditions.
“We’re confident the new Spark will set a new benchmark for the micro car segment,” he continued.
On the safety front, Spark’s stiffer and stronger architecture provides a sound structural base. Six airbags, stability control, hill start assist, ABS with EBD, traction control and available rear-view camera are among the highlights.
Pricing and specification levels will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date in April.
