This is the Scagliarini 504 Coupe Zagato Elaborata – a pimped, all-wheel drive version of the 500 Coupe Zagato concept revealed at this year's Geneva motor show. The perky orange coupe is the handiwork of US-based Fiat tweaker Scagliarini Motorsports, and was allegedly built to order for a customer based in the United Arab Emirates.
The rally-inspired one-off uses as its stylistic basis the 500 Coupe Zagato, although the Milanese studio that created the latter has since issued a statement saying it did not commission or authorise the custom job. There's even a threat of legal action, so this may get a bit murky, but for now we'll just concentrate on the car.
Although visually similar to the Zagato concept that spawned it, the Scagliarini 504 Coupe Zagato Elaborata gains filled-in rear windows, an Abarth 500 chassis and motor (the original concept featured a TwinAir two-cylinder engine) and all-wheel drive (hence the "504" moniker).
Scagliarini Motorsports boss Michael Salvarani said he got the inspiration for the car while on a bicycle ride, and the transition from vision to reality was achieved in just 60 days.
The mechanical package comprises a 132kW 1.4-litre T-Jet engine, with drive channelled to all four wheels by a five-speed manual gearbox. The whole lot rides on Koni dampers with Abarth EsseEsse lowering springs, while the 17-inch Oz Racing rims are shod with Pirelli rubber.
The all-wheel drive system, developed for the European Cinquecento, uses Fiat Panda 4x4 components and features a locking differential. Stopping power comes from Brembo brakes, and the pocket rocket promises a decent sonic signature, thanks to a Ragazzon performance exhaust.
There's also a raft of carbonfibre components, such as the front bumper/splitter, roof spoiler, rear diffuser and mirror covers. Inside, there's Abarth front seats trimmed in alcantara and a carbonfibre dash kit.
"The day we announced the Elaborata we started receiving emails from nearly all corners of the globe," claims company boss Salvarani. "As of now we are preparing a single copy of the Scagliarini 504czè, but we have an agreement in place for a limited [production] run based on demand."
