All systems go for Victorian Jeep fest

September-October dates set for biennial Australian Jeep Jamboree in Gippsland

For four days beginning on September 30, Jeep owners will have an opportunity to get seriously dirty at the biennial Jeep Jamboree to be held this year at Lardner Park near Drouin in Gippsland, Victoria.

The event's inspiration comes from the original Jeep Jamboree in the US, a trek across the Sierra Nevada Mountains that took in the old Rubicon trail and was created to kick along the economy in Georgetown, California. Today, more than 30 Jeep Jamborees are held annually in the US.

The local event returns to Victoria for the first time since 2004 and embraces four days of Jeep-oriented activities, including all levels of off-road driving, a trade alley, children's activities and family events.

Organised by the Melbourne Jeep Owners Club, the 2010 Jamboree aims at being "the largest Jeep owner's event ever held in the Southern Hemisphere" with more than 500 vehicles and an expected attendance of more than 1000 visitors daily.

Access to public and private competition circuits, as well as an extensive network of off-road tracks in nearby State and National parks will allow participants plenty of scope for testing their personal abilities, as well as the capabilities of their vehicles.

Chrysler Australia is a key partner in the 2010 event.

Managing director Gerry Jenkins says: "It's one of the unique opportunities where owners get together to share their passion for the brand. We're looking forward to watching the event develop over the coming months to be, what we think, will be the best Jeep Jamboree that Australia has seen."

More information can be found at jeepjamboree.com.au.  Early bird prices for two and four-day passes are available until July 1 2010, while day passes will become available later in the year.
