Volkswagen has used its annual GTI-Trefen event in Worthersee to take the wraps off a thinly veiled ‘concept’ version of its Amarok pick-up said to be capable of sprinting to 100km/h in just 7.9 seconds.
Dubbed ‘R-Style’, the lowered ute is powered by 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel (TDI) engine which develops 202kW and 600Nm and is matched with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The hot Amarok also features an aggressively styled bodykit, pumped front guards (+60mm), larger air-intakes, dual-outlet chrome-tipped exhausts, 22-inch alloy wheels with 295/35-profile tyres, carbon-fibre front and rear bumpers and a sail plane that would do HSV’s Maloo R8 proud.
Inside, there are acres of carbon-fibre (including the entire dashboard!), a black/red/white colour scheme, race bucket seats, an eight-inch touch-screen (a la Golf GTI), 500-Watt subwoofer and an angular-styled steering wheel.
The Amarok R-Style joined a raft of new and concept models at Worthersee, including new Golf GTI and GTD models, VW’s one-millionth Scirocco limited-edition, a WRC Polo, the apprentice-designed ‘Austria’ GTI Cabrio ‘Austria’, the Skoda Rapid RS show car and show-stopping 375kW ‘Design Vision’ GTI concepts.
