ANCAP announces latest five-star list
Two locally-built Fords score maximum five-star ratings in the latest round of ANCAP announcementsThe Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP) has announced the latest list of cars for sale in Australia to earn five-star safety ratings.
The list included four cars represented by local car-makers Ford and Holden, although only two – the Falcon FG MkII sedan and ute – are built here.
Two SUVs - Ford’s forthcoming Kuga, which is due here next year, and Holden’s Korean-built Captiva, were also five-star recipients.
The Captiva, until the arrival of the current Series II model, was previously awarded four stars. The Series II benefitted from new safety features including six airbags, an electric parking brake and hill-start assist.
The Kuga and Captiva earned their five-star rating from ANCAP’s offshore equivalent, Euro NCAP, as did the other nine cars listed in the latest results.
Among these were BMW’s new generation 1 Series, Citroen’s C4 and DS3, Kia’s Optima and Rio, Mazda’s new BT-50 ute, and Volkswagen’s Jetta and Golf cabriolet models.
Commenting on the “steadily increasing” range of five-star cars available in all Australasian new-car segments, ANCAP Chair Lauchlan McIntosh said, “ANCAP aims to provide as many ratings as possible to assist consumers in purchasing safer vehicles. This extensive range of latest ratings gives new car buyers in Australia and New Zealand more choices of five-star safety across a range of vehicle categories and price points”.
